Who Knew? Multiple Model Space Viewports Make Viewing Easy when Creating AutoCAD MEP 2010 Content

Part 2: Simple Setup Tips for Creating AutoCAD MEP 2010 Content

Most 2D AutoCAD users are familiar with the process of using paper space viewports for laying out their construction document sheets. I often find that users are not aware that they can divide their model space into multiple viewports as well. It can be very handy to have two vertical viewports whether you’re creating a 3D solid for parts or laying out ducts and pipes.

AutoCAD MEP 2010 offers a nice, quick access to the tools necessary for setting up multiple model space viewports. Go to the Ribbon > View tab > Viewports Panel and click on the Viewports Configurations List. Make your viewport configuration selection from the flyout menu. Instant viewports!

You can leave one viewport in plan view and set the other to a 3D view of your choice by navigating to the ribbon’s View tab > Appearance panel > View Presets scroll-down menu.

Return to the Ribbon > View tab > Viewports Panel, click on the Viewports Configurations List and choose Single to return to a single model space viewport when two or more viewports are no longer required.
